The Girl Without Magic
Megan O’Russell
(The Chronicles of Maggie Trent, #1)
Published by: Curiosity Quills Press
Publication date: January 9th 2018
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Death would have been easier, but the Siren wasn’t through with her.

Seventeen-year-old Maggie Trent fell out of a battle and into the Siren’s Realm, a land where secrets hide in the shadows and pleasure comes at a price Maggie is unwilling to pay.

The time for the Siren’s reckoning has come, sweeping away all she deems unworthy to live in her realm. Those without magic are hunted by the Siren. Those with magic are hunted by the Stricken. Fighting or hiding seem necessary to survive. But there is a different way.

Bertrand Wayland, unaging and unrelenting in his determination for Maggie to accept her fate, slips in and out through the stitches that bind the Siren’s Realm to other worlds, gaining magic and having glorious adventures. When Maggie follows Bertrand out of the Siren’s Realm, seeking an adventure of her own, she finds instead a world of magic on the eve of war. To save innocent lives Maggie risks her heart, her life, and her only chance of returning to the Siren’s Realm.

My Review:

One minute Seventeen-year-old Maggie Trent was fighting and the next minute she was falling through the blackness and fell into another realm, the Siren’s Realm. After waking up in the Siren’s Realm Maggie thinks she is dead but she meets a nice gentleman, Bertrand Wayland who explains to her that she is indeed not dead and explains how all the rules of living in the Siren’s Realm and that magic is used as a form of currency. Maggie tells Bertrand that she has no magic.

Maggie doesn’t like all the rules of life in the Siren’s Realm but if that is how it is to be now then she can handle it but not without complaining. Maggie is a talker and can talk a person’s ear off so to speak. She soon learns that all though she can’t leave the Siren’s Realm for good there are things called the stitches that she can use to go to other worlds to gain magic so she can buy the life that she wants to live.

So Maggie follows Bertrand through the stitches to another world one day and lands herself into a world of adventure all her own. With the help of her good friend Bertrand as a guide and mentor they set out to find more magic. They find a group of people who are on the brink of war and have no clue how to fight so Maggie and Bertrand decide to stay to give them a hand with the war.

Maggie has a lot to teach this group but this little group has a lot for Maggie to learn as well. Maggie meets a nice young man, Tammond who is about her own age whom she finds an immediate attraction for. And there was this one little girl Mina who touched my heart and Maggie’s too. Between Tammond and Mina I think they helped to show Maggie that she can learn to trust others again and that she is capable of being loved. I can see Maggie growing up and maturing a lot after meeting Tammond and Mina in the other world.

The Girl Without Magic was a very fast read once I picked it up I didn’t want to put it down and devoured it in one sitting. I think anyone who loves a good story with a touch of magic will fall head over heels in love with Maggie and The Girl Without Magic. The Girl Without Magic is suitable for all ages young and the not so young alike. Moms this is one book you can share with your daughters.
