Hope springs eternal for everyone except Bella Kynaston. She survived the rape, but the aftermath is a whole other story. She struggles to figure out who she really is as more truths are revealed about her heritage. With no real anchor, sometimes ending it all seems like the only way out.

David has loved Bella for three years. Too bad he feels as if he no longer deserves a chance with her. Much to his surprise that’s exactly what he gets, but she’s far more damaged than he ever imagined. Still, he’ll do anything to help her even if it means losing himself in the process. Any transgression can be forgiven. Or so he thinks.

Will Bella find the peace she so desperately seeks if the pain permanently ended? Is there someone who can get to her in time? Or will the damage she’s suffered prove too much to bear?

Interview with Krys Fenner

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Damaged?

There are roughly 18 characters in Damaged, not including all the minor characters. So, I won’t get too specific, but I will say that there is one for every walk of life. There are various types of families including some where the parents are fully involved and those where the parents are practically non-existent. That may seem like a rather broad answer, but I wanted to have a broad cast of characters. To me, life is colorful and that is what I wanted to represent, no matter how ugly or personal it got.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

I am currently working on the third book in the series, Avenged, which releases in May 2018. It will conclude Bella’s story and introduce a new character that will lead into the fourth book, Burned, which will also reveal much more about David and Heather Warren and that should release Spring 2019. After that I have, at least, two other books planned, but currently there is no end to the series. Though it has taken three books for Bella, each book thereafter will go back to other characters introduced in the books.

How long would you say it takes you to write a book?

That depends on how much research I need to do. I can write a book in about six weeks, but I believe for it to be fully developed then it would take me at least four months.

What is your favorite childhood book?

Nancy Drew, hands down. I loved reading mystery books when I was a child. I've actually started recollecting them.

If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Damaged who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.

Oh, this is a loaded question. Um, if I could only pick one, it would be Amanda Detrone. She reminds me a bit of myself: sarcastic, always trying to help and often failing, and nosey as hell. If we could go anywhere, I’d want to check out all the karaoke bars in the area. Did I mention we both like to sing? She's just better at it than me.

What was the hardest scene from Damaged to write?

I don’t want to completely give the scene away, but there is a scene toward the end of the book that was the hardest to write because it was heart-breaking. Despite all the trauma that Bella goes through, the last thing I wanted to do was kill her off. While I didn’t kill her, somebody does die in the end. I won’t say who, but I will say that this particular scene made my editor cry, so be prepared.

What made you want to become a writer?

I had stories to tell. It’s that simple and that complicated. I've always had a vivid imagination and for a while I really didn’t know what to do with it, until high school. I'd been big into fantasy, but my teacher had asked for our final project for me to expand my horizon a little. So I wrote a four page short story about a young woman going to her father's grave to forgive him for molesting her as a child. It was that story that made me want to be a writer.

These were really great and insightful questions. I really felt like they pulled from the series. And the stuff at the end was just fun! Thank you for being on the tour!
